MANILA - The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and the Cavite Toll Expressway (CAVITEX) have implemented toll hikes amid rising prices of fuel.

Toll Regulatory Board spokesperson Julius Corpuz said the toll increase could be attributed to NLEX's petition in 2016 and the expressways' improvements in the past few years.

"Dumadaan po yan sa tamang proseso at mabuting pag-aaral ang ginagawa ng ating tanggapan bago sila bigyan ng approval ng ating pamahalaan," said Corpuz in a televised briefing.

NLEX implemented a toll hike on May 12, while CAVITEX has a looming toll increase on Sunday.

"Naiintindihgan natin yang mga sentimyento ng mga motorista lalo na't totoo po yan. Mataas at unstable ang presyo ng ating fuel -- rising prices. Subalit kailangan natin kasing balansehin ang interes ng ating motorista at ang interes ng ating investors," he noted of the motorists concerns on the toll hike.
