BATANGAS CITY—Beau Belga of Rain Or Shine won the Obstacle Challenge, one of the side events in the second leg of the PBA All Stars series at Batangas City Sports Center here on Friday.

After outsprinting and "out-skilling" Sonny Thoss of Alaska and Justin Chua of Phoenix in the first 2 rounds, Belga took the title when he posted the fastest time over JP Erram of Blackwater and Gaby Espinas of San Miguel Beer in the final.

Belga timed 21.7 seconds, enough to beat out Erram (29.6) and Espinas (30.5).

Asked during the TV interview whether he put in some work prior to the event, the burly big man said he didn't need to.

"Wala nang practice practice. Sabi ko nga noong una, ayoko lang ma-out sa first round. Kahit man lang mag-semis lang ako, masaya na ako," said Belga, who took home the P30,000 top prize.

"Nagkataon na iyong mga nakakatapat ko, nagmi-miss ng pasa so it's a blessing."

The Obstacle Challenge consisted of shooting, dribbling and passing exercises, which normally cater to guards.

But the league gave this year's event a twist as it invited the league's centers to give the competition a shot.

"Iyong medium-range shot kaya naming mga big man iyon, so sa pasa talaga nagkakatalo," Belga said.

In the first round, Yousef Taha of TNT beat Raymond Aguilar of Barangay Ginebra, Kelly Nabong of GlobalPort downed Ken Bono of Meralco, Chua defeated Russel Escoto of Columbian Dyip, Espinas beat Asi Taulava of NLEX, Erram edged Aldrech Ramos of Magnolia, and Belga topped Thoss.

In the semis, Erram edged Nabong, Espinas beat Taha, and Belga downed Chua, arranging the 3-man final round.
