BATANGAS CITY—Rey Guevarra of Phoenix narrowly defeated Renz Palma of Blackwater to win the slam-dunk competition, one of the side events in the second leg of the PBA All Stars series at Batangas City Sports Center here on Friday.

It was Guevarra's fourth title, following wins in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Only Niño Canaleta has more with 5.

Palma became a crowd favorite on the afternoon, as the 6-foot-1 guard wowed with his leaping ability and hang time.

With 2 dunks in the final round, Palma resorted to an impressive "Statue of Liberty" dunk over a child then later a mini-windmill jam.

Guevarra wasn't going to be outdone, though, going between the legs and reverse dunk via baseline for his first try and a throwdown over a motorcycle and its driver.

Both of them scored 75, requiring a dunk-off.

While Palma went for a 180-degree jam, Guevarra went full windmill; Palma received a 39, but Guevarra earned a 40 to take the title.

The 4 judges of the competition were former PBA players Alvin Patrimonio, Benjie Paras, Atoy Co and Ed Cordero.
