MANILA – A 9-month-old girl drowned in floodwaters triggered by tropical storm Enteng in Barangay Calauag, Naga City on Monday, local authorities said.

Barangay Chairperson Ma. Corazon Peñaflor said the infant’s parents could have failed to notice that their child fell from the bed and into the floodwaters.

A barangay health worker had tried to resuscitate the infant and brought her to the hospital, where she later died.

Barangay officials have sought help for the infant’s family.

Rescuers said two people died in Naga, while landslides killed another 2 people in Cebu on Sunday.

This is fewer than the 2 storm fatalities that the national disaster council included in its 8 a.m. report.

Enteng is due to make landfall over the northern Aurora-southeastern Isabela area on Monday, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

At 1 p.m, the storm was spotted over the coastal waters of Casiguran, Aurora, packing 85 kph winds and up to 105 kph gusts.

The weather service also warned of a "minimal to moderate risk" of giant coastal waves threatening communities as the storm hits land.

Schools and government offices across the capital Manila were  shut down for the day as a precaution, while ferry services in affected areas were suspended and  29 domestic flights were canceled due to bad weather.
