Speaking to ABS-CBN News, Valerio said he never claimed to be related to any lawmaker contrary to rumors.

"Wala akong ni-name drop in the first place and hindi ako nag pretend to be somebody," he said.

(I did not name anyone in the first place and I never pretended to be somebody.)

Asked on the "8" protocol plate, Valerio said "it's not a fake plate number," and noted that his lawyer would handle the case.

The head of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) meanwhile said they have received information that Valerio's license plate came from a "kabarkada" (friend.)

“As per information gathered, binigay lang daw ng kabarkada niya (it was given by a friend). We will conduct deeper investigation,” HPG Director Roberto Fajardo said Thursday.

Police have also located Valerio's vehicle, However the protocol plate was no longer placed on it. An ordinary plate was installed instead, Fajardo said.

Fajardo also appealed to Valerio to surrender the "8" car plate.

“Pinapakiusapan natin na ilabas niya. May order na rin ang Congress na i-surrender. Yun nga lang kung fake ito, maraming naglipanang fake na number 8 na plaka kaya kailangan naming mag-crackdown na sa plate number 8," he said.

(We are appealing to him to surrender the plate. Congress already issued a recall order. However since there are a lot of fake "8" car plates, we will conduct a crackdown.) -report from Maan Macapagal and Trisha Mostoles, ABS-CBN News
