MANILA - The Commission on Elections rejected Thursday the certificate of candidacy of Abner Afuang, former mayor of Pagsanjan, Laguna who made headlines after throwing water at celebrity doctor Hayden Kho during a Senate investigation in 2009.

Initial reports said the Comelec rejected Afuang's COC due to an error in the form used. Afuang, who will run for senator, said he will rectify and file his COC again.

A former policeman, Afuang first grabbed headlines in 2009 when he poured water on Hayden Kho during a Senate committee hearing on a sex video scandal.

He earlier said he wanted to throw a chair at Kho, but he could not lift the nearest chair so he just poured mineral water from the bottle he was holding.

In 2015, he again made headlines after defacing the Chinese flag to protest China's ''bullying'' of the Philippines. He also set fire to a Taiwanese flag after the Taiwanese government imposed sanctions on Manila following the death of a Taiwanese fisherman in 2013.
