A complaint has been filed against a former Laguna town mayor who poured water on controversial Dr. Hayden Kho during a Senate committee hearing on Thursday.
The Senate has filed a complaint of violation of Article 144 of the Revised Penal Code, or "disturbance of proceedings" against former Pagsanjan mayor Abner Afuang, who is also a former police official and a columnist for a tabloid.
If found guilty, Afuang would face a penalty of one to six months in jail or a fine of P200 to P1,000.
Afuang said he has seen the sex videos of Kho, and he got angry after he saw Kho in the Senate, especially when he thought of his daughter who lives in the US.
He said he wanted to throw a chair at Kho, but he could not lift the nearest chair so he just poured mineral water from the bottle he was holding.
He also insisted no one asked him to do it. "Ang nag-utos sa akin ang damdamin ko," said Afuang.
Afuang said he went to the Senate premises to go to the office of Sen. Panfilo Lacson. The former mayor also heads an anti-crime non-government organization.
Afuang also denied a statement by Sen. Ramon Revilla Jr. that his act was “scripted.”
Personnel from the Senate Sergeant at Arms office brought Afuang to a Pasay City Police Station where the complaint was filed.
Afuang said he would go on hunger strike if he would be detained. The former police official is set to spend the night in the police station to await the opening of offices so he can post bail..
Footage showed the former policeman pouring water on Kho from a water bottle before Senate guards could stop him.
The incident occurred just minutes after Kho and actress Katrina Halili entered the session hall to attend the Senate probe chaired by Sen. Ana Consuelo “Jamby” Madrigal. With a report from Ron Gagalac, ABS-CBN News
