MANILA -- Toni Gonzaga and Pepe Herrera’s much-awaited movie "My Sassy Girl" has finally found its way to the cinemas after three years.

The Philippine adaptation of the 2001 South Korean romantic-comedy mega hit movie directed by Fifth Solomon had its red-carpet premiere on Monday night.

Along with Gonzaga, Herrera and Solomon, several celebrities showed support for the movie as well including Senators Mark Villar and Robin Padilla with their wives, Jolina Magdangal, Melai Cantiveros and Jason Francisco, Empoy Marquez, and Gillian Vicencio, among others.

“Nakaka-overwhelm, nakaka-teary eyed na makita ulit 'yung mga manonood. Nakaka-miss din mag-premiere night. Nakaka-miss mag-ganito,” an emotional Gonzaga said during a short media huddle with Herrera.

“Parang nag-flashback 'yung dati mong ginagawa, 'pag may pelikula ‘oo nga ganito dati’. Kasi parang feeling mo, kailan mo ulit kaya ma-e-experience 'yun. So parang ang sarap ng feeling, tapos kasama ko pa si Pepe and Fifth. Parang nabuhayan 'yung pagiging artista.”

“Mas masarap yung feeling ngayon. Parang wine lang eh, di ba?” Herrera quipped.

To which, Gonzaga agreed: “Parang worth the wait.”

In a separate interview with Gonzaga's husband Paul Soriano, who heads Tincan Productions -- one of the producers of the movie -- he revealed that the movie was finished in the last quarter of 2020.

“Pandemic, then of course, editing took its time. But we wanted to make sure that when we show this in cinemas, that it’s the time when everyone is already out,” he said.

After three years, Soriano finally gave the green light for the movie to be shown.

“Coming from the very successful MMFF (Metro Manila Film Festival), we felt it’s ready. People are going back to the cinemas. And this is a film that needed to be seen in the cinema,” he said.

"My Sassy Girl" will be shown in cinemas starting January 31.
