Maja Salvador portrays the titular character in ‘The Killer Bride.’ ABS-CBN/RCD Narratives

MANILA — “The Killer Bride,” ABS-CBN’s new gothic romance series, shook up primetime television on Monday with a record rating that cements lead star Maja Salvador’s draw as a drama actress.

According to data from Kantar Media, “The Killer Bride” registered a nationwide rating of 23.1% — more than double the audience of its competing program on GMA-7, “Love You Two,” which only got 10.1%.

The strong viewership of “The Killer Bride’s” pilot is notable, given its airing schedule. It occupies the third slot (9:15 p.m.) in ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida block for scripted programs after the newscast “TV Patrol,” following stalwarts “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” and “The General’s Daughter.”

In fact, according to a fan tally retweeted by producer RCD Narratives, the ratings performance of “The Killer Bride” is the highest in that time slot for a pilot episode in six years.

It was just a hair’s breadth behind the 2013 debut of “Maria Mercedes” in the same time slot, with 23.8%, also based on Kantar Media data.

“The Killer Bride” marks titular actress Salvador’s return to primetime television after the massive success of “Wildflower,” which drew her acclaim for her portrayal of the vengeful Lily Cruz.

“Mas wild,” was how the Gawad Urian winner described her new role as Camila dela Torre, whose tragic life and apparent death haunts the superstitious town of Las Espadas with tales of a “killer bride” out for revenge.

The maiden telecast of “The Killer Bride,” which traced the history of the feuding Dela Torre and Dela Cuesta clans, also dominated social media trends on Monday night, with its official hashtag and “Maja” ranking among the most talked about topics on Twitter.
