MANILA -- "Saklolo Yorme."
This was what Vice Ganda wrote as he pleaded Manila Mayor Isko Moreno for help in freeing the Pride month demonstrators who were arrested Friday for allegedly violating COVID-19 protocols.
Vice Ganda, a queer icon in the country, posted his plea on Twitter, where he has nearly 14 million followers.
The "It's Showtime" host also criticized the arrest by questioning what Moreno said last year that his city is LGBTQIA+ friendly.
Vice Ganda wrote: "Anu tooooooooo????? Pakiexplain po? Saklolo naman po dyan Yorme!!!! Sa aking pagkakaalam LGBTQIA+ friendly ang Maynila at si Yorme. Beke nemeenn!!!"
The comedian follows the likes of Miss Universe winner Catriona Gray, who have also spoken up against the arrest.
It was Friday morning when several participants in the Pride march in Mendiola were arrested, with police alleging later on that they violated quarantine rules, such as physical distancing.
