MANILA - Malls will open once the lockdown over Luzon and other areas is lifted, but businesses will need to follow the guidelines for general community quarantine, Acting Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua said on Tuesday.

Malls will be allowed to reopen shops such as supermarkets, drug stores, laundry services, restaurants for take-out and delivery, and hardware stores, said Chua, who was recently appointed to head the National Economic and Development Authority.

But before people are allowed into malls, they will be screened for any illnesses, Chua said.

"Age 21 to 59 lang ang pwedeng pumasok with ID and hindi sakitin. Mandatory temperature check, wearing of masks, alcohol use, and we limit the number of people by increasing the temperature para hindi magtambay 'yung mga tao,” Chua said.

Malls will also need to turn off their WiFi to ensure that people don’t hang around, and will go home after buying what they need.

Only selected construction activities will be allowed to resume. Construction workers will also need to practice physical distancing even in their barracks.

Public transportation will also be allowed to resume but will have limited capacity so that social distancing can be practiced.

The government has come out with a list of businesses and services that will not be allowed to resume under the enhanced community quarantine and general community quarantine. — Report from Bettina Magsaysay, ABS-CBN News
