MANILA - Clad in bullet-proof vests amid concerns for their safety, the parents of 14-year-old Reynaldo De Guzman buried Wednesday a body they claimed as their son's despite a DNA test saying otherwise.

Armed guards secured the members of De Guzman's family, who have been placed under the Witness Protection Program. They were accompanied by crime watchdog Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption.

The funeral services for the boy started with a Mass at the San Antonio Abad Parish dedicated to victims of violence.

De Guzman's neighbor cried at the church as she shared how the teenager was known for being helpful without asking for any reward.

After the Mass, De Guzman was laid to rest in an "apartment-style" tomb at the Pasig Public Cemetery. His family stayed there for only 20 minutes before they were whisked off to a safe house.

WPP's intelligence chief Ernie Talabucon said there is a possible security threat against the family, but did not specify its source.

De Guzman left his house in Cainta, Rizal last August 17 to buy midnight snacks with 19-year-old Carl Angelo Arnaiz. They never made it home and went missing for days.

The body of Arnaiz, accused by cops of robbing a taxi, was found 10 days later in Caloocan while the body of De Guzman was allegedly found on Sept. 6 in a creek in Nueva Ecija.

The Philippine National Police released Monday DNA test results saying the cadaver found in Nueva Ecija was not De Guzman, despite the parents identifying the teen's face and other identifying marks.

Authorities also noted De Guzman was circumcised while the cadaver found in Nueva Ecija was uncircumcised.

The boy's parents have rejected PNP's findings.
