MANILA — As controversies mar Filipino athletes' best performance yet at the Olympics, a sports analyst on Sunday urged the government to create a Department of Sports to address what he described as the "disorganized" state of Philippine sports agencies.

"This is the problem of Philippine sports. Too many cooks are spoiling the broth. Ang daming nagluluto, kaniya-kaniyang recipe. Minsan ang lumalabas sa ulam, panis na. Hindi ba mas maganda iisa ang nagmamando?" Tolentino told TeleRadyo Serbisyo.

"Mas madali ang feedback mechanism kung iisa ang ating pinagtatanungan, iisa ang may kontrol, maliwanag ang mensahe sa atleta, madali nilang maidudulog ang kanilang problema," he said.
As the Philippines concluded its Olympic campaign at the Paris Games, Filipina golfers Dottie Ardina and Bianca Pagdanganan faced issues with the equipment and uniforms they used.

'LEAST PRIORITY'
According to Tolentino, sports is a "least priority" for the government.
He said that in the proposed 2025 budget, the government only plans to earmark around P700 million for the Philippine Sports Commission.
This falls "way short" of its P1.152 billion budget for 2024, he said, adding that he hopes the support will still increase after the country secured two gold medals at the latest Games, courtesy of gymnast Carlos Yulo.
