MANILA – San Beda University stayed composed in the endgame as it overcame the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, 63-62, in the NCAA Season 100 men's basketball tournament on Saturday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Leading by 11 points with eight minutes left in the payoff period, 60-49, the Red Lions squandered that separation as Altas uncorked a 13-3 run capped by a Cedrick Abis trey at the 1:41 mark, 63-62.

However, that turned out to be the final score as Mark Gojo Cruz and John Boral both had their chances to claim the driver's seat but missed their attempts from the rainbow country in the dying moments of the match.

Jomel Puno scattered 16 points and eight rebounds for the Red Lions, Yukien Andrada added 11 points and grabbed five boards, while Rc Calimag had 10 points for the winning side.

San Beda has scored its second straight win after thumping Letran on October 1.

"Thankful ako dahil may back-to-back wins kami, at the same time dapat ituloy lang namin, 'di kami mag-relax," Calimag said.

Meanwhile, Abis had a total of 14 points while Shawn Orgo and Gojo Cruz had 10 points apiece for coach Olsen Racela and company.

Perpetual now holds a 4-5 win-loss card after the defeat.
