MANILA – Arellano University scored an upset win against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, 73-71, while Joshua Guiab posted a double-double to tow Jose Rizal University (JRU) past Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC), 75-63, in the NCAA Season 100 men's basketball tournament on Friday at the Filoil EcoOil Center in San Juan.

The Chiefs, who improved to a 3-6 win-loss card, held off the Blazers despite TMc Ongotan missing clutch free throws with 14.5 seconds left in regulation – which was a chance to make it a two-possession match.

Benilde's Jhomel Ancheta could not find the spacing he needed to make a shot as he was hounded by the defense. Forced to make a pass, Ancheta went to Justine Sanchez for an opportunity to extend the match, to no avail.

Ongotan had 16 points, four rebounds, and two assists, while Ernjay Geronimo chipped in 14 points, two rebounds, and an assist for the winning cause.

The Blazers absorbed their second defeat in the tilt.

Meanwhile, JRU's Guiab had 19 points and 12 rebounds, while rookie Renz Bernardo added 13 points to the double-digit romp of the Heavy Bombers against EAC.

King Gurtiza delivered 15 points to pace the Generals.

JRU and EAC now see themselves with a 3-5 win-loss record.
