(UPDATE) Carlos Yulo on Friday became the first Filipino gymnast ever to win a medal in the world championships.

Yulo, who struggled in the recent Asian Games in Jakarta, copped a bronze medal in the men's floor event of the 2018 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships at Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar.

He garnered 14.6 points for a podium slot, behind Russian winner Artur Dalaloyan (14.9 points) and Japan's Kenzo Shirai (14.866 points).

Yulo's coach, Munehiro Kugiyama, had said at the end of the Asian Games in September that he and Yulo would have to "fix" their training.
