San Miguel Beer and NorthPort will figure in a crucial match that will help decide their places in the PBA Governors’ Cup playoffs at the Cuneta Astrodome on Wednesday.

The two will clash at 7 p.m. following the 4:30 p.m. curtain raiser between Phoenix and the struggling Rain or Shine squad.

The Beermen (4-4) will be seeking a third straight victory and at least a playoff crack at the last quarterfinals berth. The Batang Pier (2-7), on the other hand, are wanting to keep their playoffs hopes alive.

Coach Leo Austria is hopeful his boys will be able to deliver even without June Mar Fajardo, who is working on his recovery from an injured shin.

"Maganda ang inilalaro namin kahit wala pa si June Mar. We have a good chance," said Austria in the PBA website.

Austria prefers they take it one game at a time and hopefully make it to the top four of the playoffs. Only the top four teams will enjoy a twice-to-beat edge over lower-ranked squads.

Meanwhile, Phoenix is also angling for a place among the top four.

At 6-3, the Fuel Masters seem to have a better chance than the slumping Rain or Shine (2-6).

Aside from playing minus the suspended Raymond Almazan, the Elasto Painters will also have to do without Beau Belga who has to rest because of plantar fasciitis.
