MANILA -- President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. inspected the damaged Gabu dike in Laoag, Ilocos Norte on Friday after his visit to typhoon-hit Batanes.

He talked to residents and promised that the dike will be fixed. 

“Imbes na slope protection lamang, lalagyan namin ng kalsada. Kasi ang nangyari dito ‘yung tubig nanggaling sa loob, tinulak ang dike palabas, palubog sa ilog. Kaya ganun nasira,” Marcos said. 

Marcos distributes aid to Ilocos Norte farmers 

“Babaguhin natin ‘yung design, ang gagawin natin kalsada tapos may slope protection para kung kahit malaking tubig ang dadating, hindi na matutulak ‘yung slope protection, ‘yung dike para lalabas na lang ‘yung tubig,” he added.

Relief goods were also distributed, while cash assistance will be given on Monday. 

Marcos was accompanied by other government officials such as Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan and Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos.

Marcos Jr. honors late father in home province of Ilocos Norte
