MANILA — (UPDATED) A club in Quezon City has been served a cease and desist order and notice of violation after it refused to cooperate with contact tracers of the Quezon City government, the local government said Monday.

The Quezon City local government said in a statement that personnel from the Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit visited F Club along E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue on Saturday to initiate contact-tracing activities, after the country logged its first mpox case for the year.

However, the club's management allegedly did not cooperate and refused to allow the team to conduct an investigation.

"Non-cooperation of the person or entities identified as having the notifiable disease or affected by the public health” is among the list of prohibited acts under RA 11332 or the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Concern Act.

In a post on its Facebook page, F Club, also known as Fahrenheit Cafe and Fitness Center, said it will follow the city government's directive, and "hold operations until further notice".

"Mpox preventive measures are taking place. We apologize for the inconvenience," the establishment added.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, in a statement, called non-cooperation to contact tracing efforts a threat to the city’s residents.

"Itinuturing nating banta sa kalusugan at kapakanan ng mga QCitizen ang ganitong pagtanggi sa isinasagawa nating contact tracing efforts. Maagap 'yung ginagawa nating pagtugon at imbestigasyon, pero napapatagal at nade-delay dahil ayaw makipag-cooperate," she said.

(We consider the refusal to cooperate with contact tracing efforts a threat to the health and safety of the City’s residents. We want to act and investigate early but this is delayed because of their refusal to cooperate.)

The local chief executive called on business owners and individuals to cooperate with the local government as it involves the public's safety and health.

Last week, a spa in Quezon City was also ordered shuttered after authorities discovered it was operating without necessary permits.

The LGU inspected the said spa because it was identified as one of the places visited by the country's 10th mpox case.

On Monday, the Department of Health reported two new mpox cases — both were detected in Metro Manila.
