MANILA — Typhoon Carina left the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday morning but would continue enhancing the southwest monsoon or habagat, which would bring rains over western parts of Luzon until this weekend, PAGASA said.

“Carina is now less likely to directly bring heavy rainfall over any portion of the country. However, the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by CARINA will bring moderate to intense rainfall over various localities in the western portion of Luzon today through Saturday,” the weather agency said.

In a 5 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said said tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1 remained raised over Batanes, where 39 to 61 kph winds could slightly damage houses made of light materials.

Carina will cross the Taiwan Strait and make its final landfall over southeastern China on Thursday afternoon or evening, PAGASA said.
