"It doesn't make sense, kasi then they will lose watchers, they will not be accredited, they will have to start accreditation again...I just don't understand the logic, feeling ko hindi political minded ang nag-isip nito... walang resonation... Walang dating ang PDP as PDP lang," La Viña said.

I just don't understand the logic, I feel like the one who thought of this wasn't politically minded... It doesn't resonate... PDP doesn't have any impact as just PDP.)

"I thought it was foolish of them doing this. Wala namang clear na dahilan. Kasi mukhang ang magkalaban namang nagyon Marcos at Duterte 'di ba? Hindi naman Duterte vs. Dilawan," he added.

(I thought it was foolish of them to do this. There's no clear reason. Because it seems like the ones competing now are Marcos and Duterte, right? It's not Duterte vs. the Yellow Camp.)

"Nauna 'yung Laban side kasi yun yung Laban ni Ninoy Aquino na kasama naman si Nene Pimentel din dahil 'yun 'yung pangalan ng partido when they ran in the 1978 elections," he said.

"Yung PDP nagsimula naman kay Pimentel, party galing Mindanao when he became mayor of Mindanao he started 'yung Partido Demokratiko Pilipino... But in the 1982 elections minerge nila yung dalawang Manila-based at Mindanao-based na political party kaya naging PDP Laban siya," he added.

For La Viña, the decision to discard this historical legacy reflects an attempt to distance the party from its roots.

"Ang feeling ko gusto nilang itaboy 'yung kasaysayan, kasi makasaysayan 'yang PDP Laban...basically they are saying from now on Duterte na ito. This is a Duterte party. Kasi sa totoo lang 'di naman kasama si Duterte sa party na yan. Sumama na lang siya nung 2016 elections... kasi 'yun 'yung political party na kumupkop sa kanya," he said.

(I feel like they want to push aside history because PDP Laban has a historical significance...basically, they are saying from now on, it's all about Duterte. This is a Duterte party. Because truth be told, Duterte wasn't originally part of that party. He just joined during the 2016 elections...because that was the political party that embraced him.)

"In this country we need real political parties, ideological parties, parties with political platforms. 'Yun 'yung hope natin. Itong cosmetic change of name, in the end, history will not even remember," La Viña added.
