MANILA -- Only televangelist Apollo Quiboloy got rich from the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) members’ years of begging, Senator Risa Hontiveros said Wednesday.

The senator was reacting to Quiboloy’s admission that his members have been soliciting funds to help the needy, an act which Hontiveros stressed is a crime.

“Pagso-solicit po ay pinag-usapan both ng national government agencies at local government na ang pagpapalimos sa ibang tao, lalo na sa menor de edad, pumapailalim sa krimen, to the point na pinag-usapan sino dapat managot. DILG ba, DSWD ba o LGU?” Hontiveros pointed out.

For the poor? May yumaman at guminhawa pero di yung mahihirap at yan si Apollo Quiboloy,” the senator added.

In a press briefing Wednesday, Hontiveros, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality, also warned Quiboloy not to snub her summon for the third time.

Hontiveros’s panel held Senate inquiries about Quiboloy’s alleged human trafficking and children and women trafficking activities last January 22 and February 19.

Both hearings, however, were snubbed by Quiboloy.

Another non-appearance and an arrest is forthcoming, the senator stressed.

Hontiveros also reacted to Quiboloy’s claim that KOJC members are after him.

Hontiveros said they will still vet the third batch of witnesses before considering them for the next hearing, or they will give Quiboloy a solo venue.

In the event that Quiboloy skips the hearing again, she will request Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri to immediately sign the televangelist’s arrest order.

She is also considering asking the Philippine National Police to help serve the arrest order.
