Pia Gutierrez, ABS-CBN NewsMANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday urged Filipinos to honor his late father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., by continuing his legacy in serving the country.

Marcos made the statement as he and former First Lady Imelda Marcos visited the tomb of the Marcos patriarch at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City for All Saints Day. A mass was held for Marcos Sr., which was also attended by a number of Marcos loyalists clad in red shirts.

By the end of the mass, the attendees recited "The Prayer for the Nation", which was written by Marcos Sr. himself.

Ngayon na nakaupo ngayon ako bilang Pangulo, mas lalong naging mahalaga ang kanyang mga salita,” Marcos Jr. said after the mass.

“Alam ninyo pagka mayroon tayong patay nakalagay diyan RIP, rest in peace.

The president also thanked Marcos loyalists for remembering his father on All Saints Day.

Marcos Jr. meanwhile refused to comment on Vice President Sara Duterte’s earlier threat to desecrate his late father’s remains. Duterte in a press conference admitted to threatening to exhume the body of the late Marcos Sr. and dump them in the West Philippine Sea.

“I’d rather not,” the President told Palace reporters.

He also did not comment on questions on his relationship with his Vice President who has accused him of being an incompetent President, saying that the country is “on the road to hell” under his poor leadership.

“Let’s talk about that some other time,” he said, when asked whether VP Duterte’s latest tirades have brought their relationship to a point of no return.
