MANILA (UPDATE) — Vice President Sara Duterte on Friday said she once warned Sen. Imee Marcos that she would personally exhume the remains of the lawmaker's father, former president Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., and throw it to the West Philippine Sea "if they don't stop" the supposed political attacks.

Duterte's father former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2016 allowed the burial of late dictator Marcos at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani, a decision that sparked protests across the country.

"Isang beses sinabihan ko talaga si Sen. Imee, sabi ko pag di kayo tumigil, huhukayin ko yang tatay nyo, itatapon ko sya sa West Philippine Sea. One of these days pupunta ako don, kukunin ko yang katawan ng tatay nyo, tapon ko yan don sa West Philippine Sea," Duterte said in a press conference.

"I don't think sumagot sya. Nandon pa yon sa group chat, merong mga nakakita na ibang tao," she added.

Duterte in the same press conference accused the Marcos administration of subjecting her to a "PR attack," referring to the House probe into her alleged fund misuse.

Duterte said Marcos should stop mentioning her name.

"Pwede ba 'pag nakita niyo siya (Marcos), sabihin niyo sa kanya, 'Alam mo, don't ever mention her name'... Pwede naman siguro tumahimik na lang," she said.

The Marcoses have yet to issue a statement on this.

'A NEW LOW'

Meanwhile, several House lawmakers found Duterte's statement on Marcos, Sr. offensive, calling it "a new low in public discourse" and "a direct attack on our cultural values."

"This isn’t just political banter—it’s a blatant act of desecration. In our culture, we honor the dead. To use them as pawns in a political game is disgusting... Threatening to desecrate the dead just to shift the narrative is utterly unacceptable," House Assistant Majority Leader Zia Alonto Adiong said.

Meanwhile, 1-Rider party-list Rep. Rodge Gutierrez expressed his outrage on Duterte's remark, stating that her actions clearly show her "desperation."

“This is pure desperation. Instead of facing the allegations head-on, VP Duterte resorts to vile threats,” he said.
