MANILA (UPDATE) - Tropical Storm Ramon (international name: Kalmaegi) kept its strength as it drifted off northeastern Philippines on Friday, PAGASA said.

Ramon was slowly moving in a north, northwest direction as of 10 a.m. and was spotted at 420 kilometers east, northeast of Casiguran, Aurora.

The storm packs maximum sustained winds of 75 kph with 90 kph gusts, PAGASA said.

Signal no. 1 remains hoisted over 3 areas where winds of 30 to 60 kph are expected: eastern portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Lal-lo, Gattaran, Baggao and Peñablanca), eastern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan and Dinapigue), and Northern Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, and Dinalungan).

The storm might hit the Cagayan-Isabela area on Sunday at the earliest, PAGASA forecaster Meno Mendoza said early Friday morning.

PAGASA also warned that gusty conditions may be experienced in northern Luzon, especially in coastal and mountainous areas as Ramon stirs rains from the northeast monsoon or "amihan."

Classes in several provinces were suspended on Friday due to Ramon.
