CEBU CITY—One of the survivors of a Cebu ambush Thursday was discharged from hospital Saturday after staying there for two days.

Commission on Human Rights Central Visayas confirmed that the survivor is now in its custody.

“It was a request of the family, out of fear, so we intervened," said Leo Villarino, chief investigator of CHR Region 7.

Villarino added that the human rights body still has to get direct information from the survivors. Once this is done, he said, such details will be put into formal writing and will be used to start a special investigation.

“She can be under our witness protection program. We’ll see,” Villarino said.

Meanwhile, CHR-7 confirmed the other survivor of the ambush is in stable condition. Villarino said his staff are not yet sure if the other survivor will also be under its custody once discharged.

Last Thursday, five men were killed in an ambush in Barangay Malubog, Cebu City. Two survivors earlier said that it was the police officers who brought them there and shot at them.
