MANILA - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chief has vowed to do something about some accredited towing companies after receiving complaints from truck drivers.

At least 12 drivers have accused personnel of several towing companies of puncturing the hose connected to their trucks' fuel tank so the vehicles would not start, requiring help from towing services.

MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said there are currently 30 towing companies accredited by the agency. He said he has been receiving complaints about some of these firms' services.

Lim said he is currently talking with the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) for possible help in upgrading the services of these towing companies in terms of personnel and equipment.

The MMDA chief admitted they have already impounded a lot of tow trucks of accredited towing companies. These units, he said, were being used even though they were already dilapidated.

Lim also admitted receiving reports of men from towing companies forcefully taking a vehicle. He said all these concerns will be addressed as soon as possible.
