MANILA (UPDATE) — University of the Philippines (UP) climbed to No. 65 among Asia's top universities, according to rankings released Wednesday by London-based education publication Times Higher Education (THE).

UP and De La Salle University, which placed in the 301 to 350 bracket, were the only Philippine universities listed in this year's THE Asia University Rankings.

The state university shot up by 30 points from No. 95 in last year's rankings.

La Salle, meanwhile, dropped from last year's 251 to 300 range.

China's Tsinghua University remained at the top of the list, which included nearly 500 higher education institutions from the region.

Times Higher Education, which has been ranking universities since 2004, said its list was based on 13 performance indicators grouped into the following areas: teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.
