MANILA - A rival political clan of the Parojinogs took hold of Ozamiz City in the May 13 midterm elections.
Sancho Fernando Oaminal was elected Ozamiz City mayor with 46,176 votes, based on 100 percent partial and unofficial election returns as of 7:44 p.m. Wednesday.
His father Henry Oaminal, meanwhile, won the congressional race with 54,151 votes, opposite Herminia Ramiro with 11,213 votes.
The Parojinog family held power in Ozamiz for almost 2 decades, until a series of drug raids in 2017 killed patriarch, former Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo "Aldong" Parojinog, his wife Susan, and other relatives.
Their children, Nova Princess and Reynaldo Jr., were arrested and are facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
