MANILA - The Bureau of Fire Protection on Sunday kicked off its community-centered campaign for the Fire Prevention Month.

With its campaign titled "Matuto Ka, Sunog Iwasan Na," the bureau hopes to educate the public on fire safety, according to BFP-Metro Manila Chief Supt. Wilberto Kwan Tiu.

"We want the community to really practice fire safety. We want the community to develop the culture of safety, security, discipline and self-help," he said.

"Gusto namin ang lahat ng Pilipino bigyan ng halaga ang seguridad, safety, disiplina upang matuto. Pagdating ng sakuna, everyone is already self-reliant."

Kwan Tiu said the bureau aims to have a "fire safe nation" by 2034.

"The administration has already approved the modernization of the BFP with the necessary equipment and resources," he said.

Kwan Tiu, without giving figures, said the BFP recorded fewer fire incidents in the first 2 months of this year compared to the same period in 2019.
