Why new Miss Earth Philippines Janelle Tee almost gave up on pageants

Janelle Tee dreaded giving up on her beauty queen dreams. She had yet to win a major crown and she was not getting any younger: she turned 28 earlier this year and that's usually past the age limit most pageants set for its contestants.
But when the organizers of Miss Earth Philippines announced that it will be accepting women up to age 28 for its edition this year, Tee saw it as a sign --it was her one final shot.
"It's not too late to make your dreams come true," she told reporters after winning the Miss Earth Philippines 2019 title in a coronation night held at Okada Manila this Wednesday.
It went down to her and Ana Monica Tan of Tagoloan town, Misamis Oriental, who had given an inspiring answer in the Q&A round that insisted that if Filipinos were to stay disciplined and united, "we can make a better nation and a happier mother Earth."
Speaking of her dreams, Tee said: "Dati pinakawalan ko na siya. Sabi ko, 'Hindi siguro para sa akin iyong pageants.' But God has his way of surprising you and this is it."
According to Tee, as Miss Earth Philippines 2019, she aims to put the spotlight on the importance of indoor air quality, which she says directly affects the health of millions of Filipinos.
She also said that her fans can expect the "best version" of her when she competes in the international Miss Earth pageant this October.
