DAVAO CITY - Paolo Duterte, the eldest son of President Rodrigo Duterte, is no stranger to politics, but even he admitted that things will be different now that his father is occupying Malacañang.

Paolo, who was re-elected as vice mayor of Davao City, said he is aware that all of his actions will be put under scrutiny since his father is now the president.

"Not only [in terms of] our job as government officials, our actions in public will be under scrutiny by the media," he said.

The younger Duterte was recently apprehended for a speeding violation. Instead of feeling embarrassed about the incident, he took it in stride and said that anyone, regardless of his stature, must be punished when he violates the law.

Meanwhile, Paolo said Presidential Security Group (PSG) men tasked to look after them had a headache yesterday when he and his siblings broke security protocol when they went to the street to thank their father’s supporters.

"Lumabas kami sa street para pasalamatan ang well-wishers ni president. Galit sila (PSG guards). Kulang na lang sabihin nila matigas ang ulo ng mga Bisaya," he said.

Paolo said he is now being accompanied by three PSG guards wherever he goes.

Meanwhile, Paolo said his sister, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, will be on leave until July 22.

"I was instructed by the mayor to review all pending contracts of job order employees and other related documents so that there will be no vacuum in government service," he said.

"I was also designated to prepare the annual 2017 budget, review the preparations for the Kadayawan Festival and ensure the continuity of pending projects."

Paolo did not disclose Sara’s reason for going on leave.
