K-pop boy band SEVENTEEN's "FML" emerged as last year's biggest-selling album globally, an industry body announced late Tuesday.

"FML" topped the Global Album Chart of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), an organization that represents the recording industry worldwide.

Released in April, "FML" is also the most pre-ordered album in K-pop history, topping charts in South Korea and Japan while also making it into the top five in the United States and France, the IFPI said in a statement.

South Korean acts accounted for five of the 10 best-selling albums in 2023, with another entry from SEVENTEEN — "Seventeenth Heaven" — making it to No. 8.

The IFPI noted that last year's rankings represented "the best ever Global Charts performance for K-Pop."

"The global appeal of K-pop continues to extend and S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon and Dino continue to push the boundaries with their concepts, performances and talent," said Lewis Morrison, director of the IFPI's global charts and certifications, naming SEVENTEEN's members.

Stray Kids, another K-pop boy band, landed on the second and ninth spot with "5-STAR" and "ROCK-STAR," respectively, while NCT Dream's "ISTJ" ranked sixth.

The other albums in the top 10 are: "One Thing At A Time" by American country singer Morgan Wallen (No. 3), "Midnights" (No. 4) and "1989 (Taylor's Version)" (No. 5) by Taylor Swift, "SOS" by SZA (No. 7), and "Utopia" by Travis Scott (No. 10).

The other K-pop albums that entered the top 20, meanwhile, include BTS member Jungkook's "Golden" (No. 14), ZEROBASEONE's "Youth in the Shade" (No. 18), and IVE's "I've IVE" (No. 20).

The IFPI's ranking is based on worldwide album sales across streaming, download and physical formats.
