MANILA — After a three-month pause, "The Voice of the Philippines" is coming back to television to find its next teen winner via the Kapamilya Channel.
But before its superstar coaches continue the search, Lea Salonga looked back at the show’s past seasons and named three talents who joined the show whose voices she will never forget.
Among them was someone not from Team Lea but Bamboo Manalac’s ward during the very first season of “The Voice of the Philippines.”
“There was this one blind audition, she ended up on Team Bamboo. Her name is Lee Grane. It was actually the moment that I can’t forget,” she told Toni Gonzaga in the Sunday episode of “I Feel U.”
“It was after we all turned and she sang ‘Angel’ by Sarah Mclachlan. Doon talaga napatayo lahat ng balahibo ko. To this day, I tell her that her blind audition was one of those I can’t forget,” she added.
The second person Salonga mentioned was Cyd Pangca, her representative at last season's finals.
“He sang ‘When We Were Young’ by Adele for his sing-off round for my team. Parang once he opened his mouth to sing, you could hear a pin drop,” she said.
Last but not the least was Darren Espanto, who’s now made a name for himself after being a part of Sarah Geronimo’s team on the first season of “The Voice Kids.”
“It was not his blind audition, as amazing at that was, kasi I did not turn for him. So it was like, ‘I don’t know about this blind audition.’ But it was during his semi-final round when he sang ‘Ngayon’ by Basil Valdez. I have to mark that as one of his best performances ever,” Salonga recalled.
“The Voice of the Philippines” has had eight seasons so far with kids, teens and regular editions.
The show was among the ABS-CBN programs that halted production in mid-March amid the coronavirus pandemic. Its return was further held off with the government shutdown of ABS-CBN's broadcast operations in May.
When the program temporarily went off air, Salonga, Geronimo, Manalac, and apl.de.ap were in the middle of recruiting artists via the blind auditions.
On Thursday, "The Voice Teens" was announced as part of the maiden lineup on Kapamilya Channel, alongside other well-loved ABS-CBN shows, both current and classics.
Kapamilya Channel will be available starting June 13 on SKY, Cablelink, G Sat, and most member-cable operators of the Philippine Cable Television Association (PCTA) nationwide.
The cable and satellite TV channels that will carry the Kapamilya Channel are owned and operated by other companies and are not covered by the cease and desist order issued by the National Telecommunications Commission to ABS-CBN.
