MANILA -- One of 48 Chinese-made trains was deployed to the MRT-3 line, with more of the vehicles set to be used on the capital's busiest rail line this week, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said Monday.

Tugade said the Dalian Corp-made trains would be gradually added to the MRT to ensure passenger safety. As many as 3 Dalian trains, with a total 12 cars, may be deployed this week, he said.

"Dahan dahan ho kami dahil kami ang naniniguro. Hindi ko ho ikukumprimiso yung safety at buhay ng mga pasahero kaya unti-unti ho ito ang isasama namin ngayon ay isa," Tugade said.

(We are taking it slow because we want to be sure. We will not compromise the lives and the safety of our passengers that's why we are deploying one first.)

Testing of the Dalian trains started Saturday, he said. "Napakaganda ho sana magtuloy tuloy na wag magkaaberya."

(It's been good so far. We hope it stays that way.)

The Aquino government purchased 48 Dalian trains for P3.8 billion, most of which have not been used due to alleged compatibility issues with the MRT tracks.
