MANILA - Skyjet Airlines operator Magnum Air Inc on Friday said it hoped to resolve the year-long seizure case involving an 80-seater aircraft forfeited by the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

In a statement, Magnum Air CEO Patrick Tan said that the new management wanted to settle its liabilities.

He insisted, however, that penalties cited by the government should not be shouldered by the company.

Magnum Air earlier said that it had filed a syndicated estafa case against the company's previous management.

Tan added that the issue over the plane was just one of the several irregularities discovered during their internal compliance audit and corporate restructuring that began in December 2016.

The airline operator said it would work with the government "to ensure all obligations [are] duly settled and the responsible be held accountable."

It also assured the public that its operations are fully compliant and duly licensed with the Manila International Airport Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.

The BOC seized the said aircraft last year because Skyjet allegedly failed to pay import taxes and duties amounting to at least P90 million.

SkyJet Airlines flies to Batanes, Coron and Boracay.
