The Philippines needs to invest more in robotics programs in schools to encourage more young kids to take up science, engineering and technology courses, a technology company official said on Wednesday.

Pinky Legaspi, vice president of Data Science and Technology Corp, said more Filipino elementary and high school students are showing interest in technology, thanks to robotics programs in their schools, but more has to be done.

She also told told ANC's Future Perfect Tech Shorts that Filipino kids can compete and win in international robot competitions if given enough support.

Legaspi noted that many of the Pinoy kids displayed creativity in the robots they built and programmed for the recent World Robot Games in Singapore.

"In the competition, we had about 15 innovators. They created robot projects that are for military, that are for home use, some are for medical purposes," Legaspi said.
