PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa said he has been in touch with team officials of Kia and San Miguel Beer and discussed with them their proposal for a draft-day trade.

Kia, which owns the No. 1 pick, is set to renounce its rights to draft first and instead give them to San Miguel in exchange for multiple players.

It is widely believed that Kia will use that pick to take Gilas Pilipinas standout Christian Standhardinger.

Narvasa said he will decide on whether to approve or reject the proposal before Sunday’s draft.

"At the end of the day, it has to be about what’s good for the PBA, families themselves, and the teams themselves," he told Spin.ph on Tuesday.

As soon as word about Kia’s plan spread, two PBA governors expressed worry that, if the deal is approved, it would be detrimental to the league.

The reaction on social media, from fans mostly, has been far harsher.

Narvasa said he is weighing all factors before coming up with a decision.

“People say it’s about parity of the league,” he said. “But people have the same right as anybody else in the team to decide their fate.”
