The reported plan by Kia to send to San Miguel Beer the rights to the No. 1 pick in the coming PBA draft has ignited vehement reaction among local basketball fans, some defending it, others shaking their heads.

Eric Menk took the debate further. He suggested scrapping the draft altogether, first tweeting his thoughts as the Kia-San Miguel news came out over the weekend, then posting again on social media Tuesday to show he isn't backing down from that assertion.

The suggestion sounds a tad drastic, outlandish even for a few, that Menk had to fend off those who were turned off by his hot take.

Menk, who currently works on a podcast and occasionally works as a TV analyst on PBA games, is one a few players in PBA history who didn't go through the draft.

As part of the agreement between the PBA and Tanduay upon the franchise's return to the league in 1999, the team was allowed to select players from its Philippine Basketball League lineup to take to the PBA; Menk was one of those chosen.
