Recent reports that have surfaced saying Kia is shipping its No. 1 pick to San Miguel Beer have upset some PBA team executives, who believe the move would hurt league parity, the lack of which remains a hot-button topic among fans.

Multiple websites have reported that Kia, the youngest franchise in the PBA that had the worst record in the 2016-17 season, is keen to draft Gilas Pilipinas mainstay Christian Standhardinger but intent on shipping him to San Miguel Beer via trade.

Spin.ph reported that Kia has submitted its trade proposal to the PBA commissioner's office for approval.

The PBA draft will be held on October 29.

Speaking to the website, Blackwater team owner Dioceldo Sy urged PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa to nix the proposal.

“Commissioner Narvasa should do his role to balance the league,” Sy said. “It’s already obvious Kia can’t afford to manage a competitive team in the PBA.”

Richard Bachmann, Alaska's representative to the PBA board, told Interaksyon.com that it wouldn't be good for the league to approve the trade.

“This is really alarming. We’re raising this issue for the good of the PBA,” Bachmann said.

In exchange for Standhardinger, Kia would get Keith Agovida, Rashawn McCarthy and JayR Reyes, who rarely played if at all for San Miguel this season, Spin reported.

If the trade is given the green light, that would mean San Miguel, the team with the best record in the 2016-17 season and which won two titles, will have leapfrogged all 11 other teams to get the coveted first overall pick.

As it is, the Beermen have the strongest front-loaded roster in the league.

June Mar Fajardo is the reigning 4-time MVP, with teammates Alex Cabagnot and Chris Ross among the top candidates for the award.

Those 3 and Arwind Santos were part of the First Mythical Team.
