Batang Gilas gets tough draw in FIBA U-17 World Cup

MANILA, Philippines -- Batang Gilas will face nothing but tough tests when they compete in the 2018 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup in June in Argentina.

That's because Kai Sotto and company have been included in a tough group that also includes a trio of highly ranked squads, including the host nation.

The Philippines, ranked 31st in the world, is in Group D along with 7th ranked Argentina, 8th ranked Croatia, and 9th ranked France.

In Group A are: Australia, Puerto Rico, Turkey, and the Dominican Republic.

In Group B are: Mali, China, the United States, and Serbia.

In Group C are: Canada, New Zealand, Egypt, and Montenegro.

The good news for Batang Gilas is regardless of their record in the group round, they will still qualify to the Round of 16.

The World Cup will run from June 30 to July 8 in Rosario and Santa Fe, Argentina.
