MANILA (UPDATE) - The Philippine Marines marked Independence Day on Monday with a tribute for their 13 comrades who were killed while battling terrorists in Marawi City.

Most of the 13 Marines were killed by a mortar round during a clash against the Maute group on Friday.

Three of the fatalities have been brought home to their respective provinces in Mindanao while the other 8 were given full military honors in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig on Monday.
