MANILA (UPDATE) - The Manila Regional Trial Court has ordered the transfer of the suspects in the fatal hazing of University of Santo Tomas (UST) law freshman Horacio "Atio" Castillo III to Manila City Jail.

In an order signed by presiding judge Marivic Balisi-Umali released Tuesday, the court directed the warden of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Detention Center to turn over the fratmen to the jail warden of BJMP City Jail in Manila within 48 hours.

The following fratmen are currently in the custody of NBI for violation of the Anti-Hazing Law:

1. Arvin Balag
2. Mhin Wei Chan
3. Axel Munro Hipe
4. Oliver Onofre
5. Joshua Joriel Macabali
6. Ralph Trangia
7. Jose Miguel Salamat
8. Hans Matthew Rodrigo
9. Robin Ramos
10. Marcelino Bagtang Jr.

Earlier Tuesday, the accused appeared at the Manila RTC's Branch 20 for a hearing.

The hearing, also attended by Atio’s parents and sister, only lasted for a few minutes.

The court postponed the arraignment of the accused, pending the resolution of the Department of Justice on petition for review filed by Trangia.

Despite having to wait for 2 more months before arraignment, Atio's father Horacio II said the family is satisfied with the pace of their quest for justice.

Castillo died while undergoing initiation rites with the Aegis Jvris fraternity on September 17, 2017.

His death put the spotlight on fraternities and their culture of hazing, prompting lawmakers to amend the existing anti-hazing law.
