MANILA (UPDATE)- Suspects in the hazing death of University of Santo Tomas (UST) law freshman Horacio "Atio" Castillo III surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday.

The following Aegis Jvris fraternity members were picked up "somewhere in Manila" by NBI agents around noontime after a "common friend" informed the agency of the suspects' intent to surrender:

1. Mhin Weig Chan
2. Jose Miguel Salamat
3. John Robin Ramos
4. Marcelino Bagtang Jr.
5. Arvin Balag
6. Ralph Trangia
7. Axel Munro Hipe
8. Oliver Onofre
9. Joshua Joriel Macabali
10. Hans Matthew Rodrigo

Their surrender came after the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) on Thursday ordered their arrest for Castillo's death in September last year.

The NBI said the suspects would temporarily remain under NBI custody as the court has yet to release a commitment order for the fraternity members.

The suspects were accompanied by their parents and lawyers, the NBI said.

Last month, UST expelled 8 law students tagged in Castillo's fatal hazing. The university, however, refused to identify the students.

Castillo died while undergoing initiation rites at the Aegis Jvris fraternity on September 17.

His death put the spotlight on fraternities and their culture of hazing, prompting lawmakers to amend the existing anti-hazing law.
