MANILA - A Manila court on Thursday granted self-confessed hitman Edgar Matobato's bail plea after he surrendered to authorities.

The Manila RTC Branch 48 issued a temporary release order for Matobato on the same day, according to his lawyer, Jude Sabio

Matobato sought bail after a Digos City court ordered his arrest for a frustrated murder. It set a P200,000 bail.

Chief Superintendent Joel Coronel, Manila Police District director, said Matobato voluntarily surrendered.

Matobato told a Senate inquiry in October that President Rodrigo Duterte was behind a spate of killings in Davao City during his stint as mayor. --with reports from Raya Capulong, ABS-CBN News
