While Matobato can attempt to post bail, his release will depend on the court, said Chief Superintendent Joel Coronel, Manila Police District director.

Matobato told a Senate investigation in October that he was part of President Rodrigo Duterte's alleged hit squad, when the Chief Executive was mayor of Davao City.

The Regional Trial Court Branch 19 in Digos City, Davao del Sur had ordered the arrest of Matobato over a frustrated murder case filed by Abeto Salcedo Jr., a retired adjudicator of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
