DAVAO CITY - President-elect Rodrigo Duterte is keeping the three-headed communications group of his predecessor, and is considering a journalist to handle his messaging, his incoming communications secretary said Saturday.

The announcement of a new secretary of the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office (PCDSPO) will complete Duterte's communications group. He has previously chosen lawyer Salvador Panelo as presidential spokesman and TV 5 television and radio anchor Martin Andanar as head of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).

"I don't know if we have to reinvent the wheel," Andanar told ABS-CBN News.

Andanar is replacing PCOO Secretary Herminio Coloma while Panelo will take over from presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda. The current head of the PCDSPO is Undersecretary Manolo Quezon.

Two names have been shortlisted to replace Quezon, Andanar said.

The PCOO operates government media properties including PTV 4, Radyo ng Bayan, and the Philippine News Agency, among others. It also handles IBC 13, which the government sequestered after the fall of the Marcos dictatorship in 1986.

The PCDSPO is in charge of crafting the President's messages while the spokesman handles the daily press briefings in Malacañang. Lacierda currently has a deputy, Undersecretary Abigail Valte.
