You would think that by now, motorists would be used to the heavy traffic around the metro. But today, traffic was unusually heavy, even for veterans of EDSA.

So, what caused--or is still causing--traffic, aside from the usual volume of vehicles?

This morning, an L300 van fell on its side on the south-bound lane of Ortigas flyover, clogging up 2 lanes.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) also reported multiple accidents and stalled vehicles since this morning.

But if you're still wondering why it took you more than 2 or 3 hours
to get to your destination, it's probably because many are celebrating Christmas parties today.

Case in point:

Posts about traffic on social media was as heavy as EDSA, too.

And Pinoys being Pinoys, we still find ways of making light of the situation.

But whatever you experienced today, be thankful you were not this guy:

Traffic is still expected to be heavy tonight, so be sure to stock up on some extra Christmas cheer.
