MANILA - Singer, composer, and actor Ogie Alcasid said on Friday that he is stepping down as president of the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM).

Speaking to "Tonight with Boy Abunda" on Friday evening, Alcasid said he plans to step down after taking the helm of the non-profit organization for six years.

"Six years na rin ako. I gave up a lot of my time, especially with my family," Alcasid told host Boy Abunda.

Alcasid is happily married to the "Asia's Songbird" Regine Velasquez. They have a son, Nate. Alcasid also has two daughters with ex-wife, former Miss Australia 1994 Michelle van Eimeren.

Alcasid said he is looking at passing the baton to the next generation of singers.

"After six years, sabi ko, I think it's about time that the younger ones take over," he explained.

Alcasid earlier said that he is eyeing Spongecola vocalist Yael Yuzon, husband of Karylle, to be the next OPM president when the group holds its elections in December.
