MANILA – A teachers' group has welcomed the Department of Education’s move to investigate a viral TikTok video of a teacher "insinuating a potential child abuse action."

Benjo Basas of Teachers’ Dignity Coalition said the teacher involved has already issued an apology for his actions.

Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones earlier said she wants appropriate sanctions to be imposed on the teacher.

Basas commended the school of the allegedly erring teacher for launching an investigation into the video.

He said that he is saddened, however, at how the teacher’s name has seemed to have been dragged through the mud.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones has reminded teachers and non-teaching personnel to always subject words and actions to the highest degree of ethical and professional standards.

“As teachers and public servants, we must always champion a safe and nurturing learning environment for children, where physical, verbal, sexual and other forms of abuse and discrimination are renounced,” she said.
